£100,000 to go for ELF’s Chevithorne Appeal!

Exeter Leukaemia Fund (ELF) is one step closer to funding its family suite at the RD&E! The Chevithorne Appeal, launched last March has just hit £320,000 of its £420,000 target so the race is now on to raise the last £100,000.

ELF believes that no patient should face the end of their illness alone and that is why it launched the Chevithorne Appeal.  The Appeal will fund the building of a family suite for critically and terminally ill patients at the RD&E so they can be together with their families when it matters the most.  Unfortunately, many terminally ill patients will spend their last days in hospital. The intensity of treatment needed and timescales involved means that they are unable to go home or to a hospice.  The new ELF Family Suite will provide privacy and comfort and, most importantly, time to be together with their loved ones.

The Family Suite will help families from all over Devon who have loved ones being treated at the Haematology Ward for blood cancers or blood disorders such as leukaemias, lymphomas and myelomas.

Alison Upton from ELF says “We are thrilled that we are on the home straight with our Chevithorne Appeal.  We are incredibly grateful to the companies, foundations, organisations and individuals that have supported the cause so far, helping to make such a difference to families when they really need it.   But, we still have a way to go and I would like to call upon everyone to do what they can to help…. this might be donating online, organising a cake sale at work or school, getting your workplace involved or donating clothes to one of our charity shops.”
