Apprentices, local talent and university graduates are crucial to business growth.

We are incredibly passionate about hiring the aspiring, the eager and the skilled; and from our experience apprentices, local talent and university graduates are full of potential employees like this.

July 2016, IT Support team member Lewis Photiou graduated from his apprenticeship to become a full time employee. Providing our clients with excellent IT support whether it’s over the phone to fixing the hardware himself Lewis has now built himself a career here and proved himself to be a valuable asset to the team.

Lewis’ mentor, Roger Thorn from Achievement Training stated “Lewis was very conscientious and committed to his apprenticeship, producing assignments at a very high standard. He achieved distinctions in all three of his technical certificate exams. The success would not have possible without the support of his employer, Acronyms, providing him with the on-the-job experience that enabled Lewis to cover all of the assessment criteria required for his diploma. On completion of his apprenticeship, Lewis has been offered full time employment at Acronyms.”

David Parker, Support Director at Acronyms said “Having an apprentice is invaluable as it has enabled Acronyms to accelerate the growth of the business in a cost effective manner, whilst providing Lewis with an opportunity to gain valuable business skills in a leading IT, Voice and Data business. Acronyms take the long term view that it is important to invest in the skills for the future of our company. Apprenticeships enable us to recruit people with the right attitude and enthusiasm, who want to succeed, qualities Lewis demonstrated throughout his apprenticeship. Having successfully completed his apprenticeship, Lewis has been taken on as a full time member of Acronyms staff. Lewis has been a real success and with continued in house training will become an invaluable asset.”

Our team is full of university graduates and apprentices who have joined early on and are continuing to shape the business Acronyms is today. This includes:

  • Lee Tucker – having joined as an apprentice 6 years ago he has been a long term asset to the support team
  • Louis Jackson – Joined the Sales and Marketing team at Acronyms last year after graduating from Plymouth University
  • Ricardo Miragliotta – Joined the marketing team last year as an apprentice
  • David Parker – One of our Directors was once a normal employee after he graduated from Plymouth University 12 years ago

We find that putting the time into training and developing staff like this from the beginning has created a strong workforce of dedicated, passionate employees. Due to all the success we’ve had we are proud to announce we are going to enter for the Western Morning News Business Awards for the Apprenticeship Award. This is given to companies that are able to show real commitment to training and development through apprenticeships. We feel that this award isn’t for Acronyms but rather an acknowledgement to the employees themselves, the apprentices and those senior team members who contributed to training them.

It gives recognition to their hard work and what they have done throughout their time so far within the business.
