Pavey Group have utilised their nomination this year to hopefully secure their chosen charity, Children's Hospice South West £5,000 worth of funding for two of their sibling weekends in 2017.
Voting is now open and we're calling on our connections at Exeter Chamber to please vote and share with their colleagues, family and friends.
Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) supports life-limited children and their families. They walk alongside parents, brothers and sisters and the poorly child, from diagnosis towards bereavement and beyond. Their focus is on the whole family, providing specialist respite care and support which relieves the burden of caring for a sick child and allows families to spend precious time together focusing on simply being a family.
One of the unique and very special elements of their service is the work of the sibling team. This amazing group of four people, provide support to the brothers and sisters of life-limited children, not only when they are staying with their family at Little Bridge House, but also when they are at home. The hospice’s annual teenage sibling weekend is a very important part of this and takes place at Skern Lodge, an outdoor adventure centre in Appledore, North Devon. It’s a hugely popular date on the calendar and gives the teenagers the opportunity to enjoy a wide variety of team-building activities including surfing, kayaking, swimming, zip wiring and obstacle courses. Many siblings can often feel left out and don’t get the chance to enjoy trips such as this due to the pressures their families are under with caring for a poorly child. It is therefore wonderful to give them this opportunity.
Unless CHSW secures the funding for the weekend each year, it cannot go ahead. In fact in 2014, they were unable to hold it as they did not secure the necessary funding in time. Due to demand and the success of the event, the hospice’s care team are hoping to hold two in 2017.
It takes just a few minutes of your time to register and will make such a difference to the families staying at the hospice. To learn more about CHSW's Sibling weekends and to cast your votes (don't forget you have 10!), please visit: bit.ly/2epiHeJ
