UPDATE: Marsh Barton Fire

By March 2, 2017January 26th, 2021Local Authority News, Member News & Updates

The fire in Marsh Barton is now out and crews are dampening down.

There have been a few reports of ash landing around the city, including in a nearby allotment. The Environment Agency and Public Health England have advised there is minimal risk to public health.  They advise a common sense approach to disposing of any ash and if members of the public are digging up vegetables from allotments, it is advisable that people wash vegetables prior to eating.

The City Council continue to work with businesses in and around the area to offer any support we can and our own trade and residential waste collection is well under way.

It is expected the remains of the building will be demolished this afternoon whilst firefighters are still on site.

Buses, including the Park and Ride, are in operation but being diverted around the affected area.   The cordon has been reduced further and the majority of roads are open but it is advisable to avoid the area to limit congestion.  Exton Road remains closed, as well as a small section of Marsh Barton Road from Kwik Fit up to the junction with Exton Road and Marsh Green Road North.
