Joint CEO of Cosmic, Julie Hawker, last week won ‘Employer of the Year’ at the national Venus Awards 2017. This is a fantastic achievement, succeeding from winning the Devon round through to winning in the national final event in Basingstoke on 13th July. The Venus Awards are a global annual awards ceremony that celebrates the success of working women in business.

Based in Honiton, East Devon, Cosmic is an ethical IT business and social enterprise which specialises in IT training courses, business consultancy, website development and technical support. This social enterprise consists of 30 people and has been running for 21 years. Cosmic’s mission is to deal with the issue of digital inclusion, ensuring that all people in all communities in the South West have the access, skills and knowledge to make use of digital technology. Cosmic deliver training and support to local businesses, schools, charities and to community groups in both rural and urban areas in Devon, Somerset and Cornwall.

Cosmic are extremely proud to learn that Julie has now won the Employer of the Year 2017 award on July 13th, following winning the national Director of the Year Award 2016.

We asked Julie to share how she felt when she won Employer of the Year at the 2017 Venus Devon Awards. Julie said,

“It’s a wonderful honour to have received the award, and one which recognises the huge importance of great employment policy and practice, particularly in the years ahead as we face growing skills shortages. I celebrate the achievement with a major thank you to all my colleagues at Cosmic, and also to Santander bank who sponsored the award here in Devon.  Cosmic will continue to improve and enhance our work in this area, and we look forward to welcoming even more great employees as a result”.

The Venus Awards are well sought after and attract a range of inspirational women leaders in various fields each year; being shortlisted and then carrying on to win is a great achievement. The 8th annual Venus Awards National Finals saw over fifty regional winners compete in their respective categories for a coveted National Venus Award trophy. The bringing together of the Venus family of inspirational and influential women from across several counties and regions made for a remarkable and celebratory afternoon.

This is another brilliant success for Julie. The whole team at Cosmic are extremely proud of this well-deserved accomplishment in this year’s Devon & National Venus Awards in such a great category.
