Kitsons are pleased to announce the dates of their latest series of Breakfast Seminars to be held in their Exeter office (The Forum, Barnfield Road, Exeter, EX1 1QR).

The seminars are scheduled to run across the course of the next four months, covering a range of legal issues and topics which we feel you are likely to encounter either personally or in business. 

The seminars are free to attend and each session will carry 1 hour of Continuous Practice Development (CPD). 

The format of the seminars will be:

8.00am: Breakfast and registration

8.30am: Seminar and questions

9:30am: End

1. GDPR (Nicholas Johnson)
– Wednesday 21st February 2018

After four years of preparation and debate the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) was finally approved by the EU Parliament in April 2016. It will come into force on 25th May 2018.

Organisations in non-compliance with the Regulations will potentially face heavy fines. This seminar will provide a brief overview of GDPR and how organisations (even at this late stage) can prepare themselves.

 

2. Litigation: An Introduction to the Small Claims Court (David Turner)
– Wednesday 7th March 2018

All businesses at one time or another are likely to become involved in a business dispute – either as a Potential Claimant or as a Potential Defendant. Claims with a value of £10,000.00 or less will almost certainly be assigned in the court process to the Small Claims Court.

This seminar provides an introduction to the Small Claims Court; the procedure; what happens; the best way of dealing with the process and some anecdotes from our experience in dealing with many such cases.

 

3. Employment: Top Ten Tips for Managing Employee Absence in Your Business (Jayme Nicholson)

– Thursday 22nd March 2018

Employment Partner, Jayme Nicholson, will provide practical guidance on the management of employee sickness absence. 

The session will provide delegates with an understanding of the key legal principles, but focussing primarily on practical steps that you can take to minimise absences and their cost to your business.

 

4. Property: Taking a Lease of a Property; What you Should Watch Out for? (Cameron Caverhill)
– Wednesday 4th April 2018

If you are considering entering into a new Lease or taking assignment of an existing Lease this will be relevant to you.

This seminar focuses on issues which arise at a heads of term stage and will aim to provide you with an understanding of the key legal matters.

 

5. Insolvency: Unpaid Invoices – What can you do? (Andy Pay)
– Wednesday 18th April

Perhaps a more regular occurrence than a business would like but nevertheless extremely frustrating.

Andy Pay, Head of Insolvency, at Kitsons in Exeter talks through the options available for debt recovery.

 

6. Probate: 10 Things to Think About When Making a Will (Charlie Siegle)
– Wednesday 2nd May 2018)

The making of a Will is a serious (and sometimes complex) matter – whatever unregulated Will writers may say!

Charlie Siegle, Kitsons Probate Partner in Exeter sets out the important factors to consider when making a Will
