Space Awards 2019 open for entry


The Space Awards celebrating amazing workspaces in and around Exeter have launched.


The awards celebrate and showcase the most innovative employee initiatives and champion the best and ‘coolest’ places to work in and around Exeter.


Last year’s inaugural awards saw over 200 business people pack into the RAMM for the ceremony, to celebrate the city’s best workspaces and work initiatives from the likes of Lightfoot, Crowdcube, LiveWest, Hilton Barnfield and PKF Francis Clark.


Space, the Exeter-based workspace transformation experts who run the awards hope that by encouraging innovation and best practise more people will be attracted to work and run businesses in Exeter, establishing the city as a great place to work. 


Tim Wadsworth, Managing Director at Space said: “After the success of last year’s awards, we are really looking forward to uncovering more of the city’s fantastic workspaces and work initiatives for the Space Awards 2019. Be it offices designed to maximise happiness and productivity, making use of the latest technology or initiatives supporting mental health and well-being, the Space Awards gives us the chance to recognise, celebrate and champion the best of the best in and around Exeter.’’


Entering the awards is free and categories include Best Workspace, Coolest Workspace, Best Co-Working Space, Well-being Award, Best Sustainable Space, Best Desk, Best Office Feature, Best Employee Initiative and Best Corporate Workspace and The Wow! 2019 Award.


The awards, which are set to take place at the end of September, bring together businesses from across the city to learn from one another and showcase the creative ideas being introduced.


Jo Caine, Exeter Chamber Director and owner of Cathedral Appointments who sits on the judging panel, said: ‘’A great working environment and supportive cultures are fundamental to not only the well-being and productivity of your current employees, but to how you attract and retain the talent you need as a business to grow.


“In an increasingly competitive market, with savvy Millennials and Digital Natives looking for work with meaning, it’s vital that employers understand how important it is, and what steps they need to take, to shape modern workspaces and initiatives that bring out the best in people and deliver great results for their business.


“The Space Awards help businesses learn from each other and I’m looking forward to seeing what businesses in and around Exeter have introduced this year!’’


Lightfoot won the ‘Best Workspace Award’ 2018. Mark Roberts, its founder and CEO, commented: ‘’You spend a lot of your life at work and some people fail to recognise how vital a good workspace is for wellbeing and happiness. At Lightfoot, we wanted to create an environment that excited our team and reflected their energy and passion. We’re not sitting still when it comes to nurturing our culture, though, and are looking forward to seeing the ways other businesses in the area are doing this.’’


The deadline for nominating a business for a Space Award is Friday 28th June with judging taking place on Tuesday 2nd July. The shortlist will be announced on Thursday 4th July and the awards’ ceremony will be held in Exeter at the end of September.


There will also be a celebration for the shortlisted companies as well as the new Space office opening party on Thursday 11th July!
