Paignton company, Alert Technology Ltd successfully launched the ‘Asbestos ALERT PRO 1000’, a life-saving new technology and the world's first and only real-time warning device for airborne asbestos fibres, at the Contamination Expo 2019 at NEC Birmingham. This industry-changing device received the recognition it deserved, winning the show’s Asbestos Award.
Alan Archer, founder and MD of Alert Technology, is an active part of the local business community. Currently a member of the Hi-Tech forum and formerly an NED of the Torbay Development Agency, an ex-governor of South Devon College and ex-Chairman of the Torbay Business Forum – many will be aware of Alert Technology’s journey and also of Alan’s dedication to bringing this life-saving technology to the market. Mr Archer says of the product’s launch, “The Contamination Expo was a huge success for us, not only because we won the asbestos category award but also because we were overwhelmed by the positive response and the number of visitors to our stand. Companies travelled from as far as Australia, America, Japan and the EU to visit us, generating many hot leads from companies keen to become early adopters of our Asbestos ALERT warning device.”
With a Devon County Council report earlier this year showing 83% of its schools containing asbestos, a Devon hotelier recently being fined £80,000 for exposing employees to the risk of asbestos whilst carrying out refurbishment work, and 9 out of 10 NHS hospitals containing asbestos, the ALERT could bring huge benefits both at home and internationally.
Asbestos-related diseases claim the lives of over 255,000* people globally every year, of which 233,000 are attributed to work-related exposure, and with asbestos commonly used in the construction of domestic, public and commercial buildings prior to 1999, the company’s aspiration is that no one should have to put their health at risk by unknowingly being exposed to airborne asbestos fibres at work.
Aimed at professionals within the fields of asbestos abatement, construction, demolition, maintenance, occupational hygiene, waste management and more, the ALERT is relevant to more than 30 industry sectors globally, offering those most likely to disturb asbestos-containing materials at work a first line of defence by providing an early warning to prevent prolonged exposure to the world’s biggest occupational killer.
