Exeter City Council’s Royal Albert Memorial Museum & Art Gallery (RAMM) has received a grant of £94,800 from The National Lottery Heritage Fund.

The funding is for a project called ‘Resilient RAMM: Building our Fundraising Future’ and is designed to build the resilience of the museum so that it can continue to thrive in the future.

The project has been made possible by money raised by National Lottery players and aims to cement the museum’s future by building stronger relationships with supporters on top of existing support.

Exeter City Council, Arts Council England and RAMM’s supporting charities, the Friends of RAMM and the RAMM Development Trust, have also contributed funding to the project.

RAMM holds a special place in the heart of the community. Initially built using public donations, it retains a strong sense of civic pride and local ownership which spans the museum’s 150 year history. Through this project, RAMM aims to harness this support, to ensure it can do even more to care for its remarkable collection and continue providing a place of discovery and inspiration for generations to come.

Camilla Hampshire, Museums Manager & Cultural Lead said, “We are thrilled to have been awarded this important grant and want to thank The National Lottery Heritage Fund for their support. RAMM is an Exeter City Council Service and its work has a direct impact on the quality of life of so many local people. The Council’s support for RAMM’s work remains undiminished.”

RAMM receives generous financial support from Exeter City Council; additional funds allow the museum to open up the collections further, put on its rich public programme of exhibitions, talks, workshops and engage with community groups.

The 20-month project will develop RAMM’s fundraising ability. Two new specialist roles, training and volunteering opportunities and new fundraising resources will enable the museum to build stronger relationships with supporters, encouraging and facilitating material support.
