The Building Greater Exeter Team continues to work with its construction industry partners to support them during this challenging time. This period of lockdown has been particularly unusual for the sector, with parts of the industry taking different approaches to their operations. In accordance with the guidance from Public Health England, and in line with the open letter from the Secretary of State a number of sites have been able to stay operational, and we have continued to see projects across the region progressing. More recently there is daily news about companies and sites – particularly housebuilding – that will be re-opening over the coming days.
The team is pleased to announce that it has launched its new online resource – the ‘Building Greater Exeter Education Hub’ with a wide range of activities and ideas for all ages provided by our project partners and the Go Construct team. The hub is openly available to everyone to use.
Our Job Shop also continues every Wednesday 9.30am – 12noon, with support offered by ‘phone and via our dedicated webpages for people looking for opportunities within the construction sector.
Chair of the Steering Group, Matthew Cousins, of Apex Scaffolding Exeter Ltd said;
“It has been a very confusing time for the construction industry, and very worrying, with many trades feeling they were unable to continue working under the current guidelines. We are hopeful that we can support the local construction industry to start the process of returning to the new normal, safely and efficiently. It is great that we have been able to quickly pull together the Education Hub resource that can be used to engage and inspire children of all ages, especially school and college leavers, who may be unable to access the usual level of careers advice at this time”
