Meet the Member – Exeter Cathedral

By February 11, 2021Meet the Member

Sadly, we are only able to open for private prayer and contemplation just now; something we find really difficult here at Exeter Cathedral. While uplifting music and services are online we long to welcome back people from Exeter and right across Devon through our doors, just as we have been doing for 1000 years.

The only compensation is that we’re currently undertaking a number of conservation projects and archaeological investigations which would be a real challenge if undertaken alongside our usual busy schedule of choral services, concerts, tours, visits, events and activities. These investigations are to help us plan new facilities and make the case for investment so that we can welcome more visitors; make more of our treasures; host more learning and creative activities; help make us fit for purpose for the 21st century and, sustainable for the longer term.

We value the support of the business community especially to those of you who kindly help sponsor our events, hire our spaces for your hospitality, give a donation, give time as a volunteer or bring your families to events. The Cathedral has a vital part to play in our local economy, in attracting people to the city. As you can appreciate, it is expensive to maintain our heritage but we hope it is valued by you all. We need your help if we are to improve our offer. If you’d like to know more about our plans, or would like to be involved in any way, we’d love you to get in touch.
