Exeter Cathedral School raises over £6,000 for local charity supporting bereaved children and young people

Since September 2021, pupils and staff of Exeter Cathedral School have been raising money for their nominated ‘Charity of the Year’, Balloons.

Their efforts have led to the fantastic sum of £6,429.66 which was handed over via a large cheque to CEO of Balloons, Nicola Clarke, on 6 July 2022.

Balloons is an Exeter-based charity which was launched in 2007 with the mission of supporting bereaved children and young people when someone significant in their lives dies. Balloons’ invaluable work involves coming alongside their families and the professionals who care for them to further enhance the support they receive.

In response to the school’s fundraising efforts, Nicola Clarke shares: “We are absolutely thrilled to receive this incredible donation from Exeter Cathedral School! The fundraising effort of the school community has been amazing. This money will make a significant difference in enabling us to assist more bereaved children, young people and their families, providing advice, resources and one-to-one support.”

The money was raised through a programme of activities, chief among which was the school’s flagship annual Charity Concert. Held in the spectacular venue of Exeter Cathedral, the Charity Concert is one of the much-anticipated highlights in the school’s famously-versatile musical calendar, with local businesses and surrounding schools generously sponsoring and donating.

Polly Salter, Charities Coordinator at Exeter Cathedral School, tells of her delight about this achievement:

“We have been thrilled to support the incredibly important work of local charity, Balloons. Over the course of this academic year, the pupils of Exeter Cathedral School have used their musical talents to raise funds to help the vital work that Balloons carries out. We are enormously grateful for all their efforts and for the generosity of the whole school community.”

There is now a sense of excitement amongst staff and pupils as they look forward to nominating, and raising money for, their new Charity of the Year from September 2022.
