Sponsor ‘What if…?’ A Festival of Children’s Stories

About the Festival
In February 2024 we’re hosting ‘What If…?’ a festival of stories for children, young people and their families in St Thomas and the wider Exeter area with an anticipated footfall of nearly 2000 people.
There will be theatre performances, workshops, an exhibition, author and illustrator talks, and Emmanuel Hall will be transformed into a portal for creativity and play, all centred around the magic of story. With a café on site, selling local produce, the festival will become a space for families to spend their day, moving from one vibrant creative activity to the next.
‘What If..?’ launches the exciting new vision for Emmanuel Hall as a Centre for the Imagination for Children and Young People.

Alibi’s Centre For The Imagination
Our home is Emmanuel Hall, a beautiful old building justoff Okehampton Road in Exeter. Our hope is to open itsdoors to create a centre for discovery where children’simaginations can run free. We will transform the place, with small people in mind and bring togetherprofessional artists, makers and teachers to create aplace which will inspire young minds. Central to openingthis space, we will also work closely with our localschools ensuring they receive the benefits of thisincredible creative resource right on their doorstep.
An important part of our work has always been aboutgiving children’s imagination the special place itdeserves, and our strong sense is, that just now, children aren’t getting enough of those magicalopportunities to be inspired and express themselves.
Your support will allow us to make these plansaccessible to as many children as possible, and will helpus bring to life ‘What If..?’, the first event of many fromthe Centre For The Imagination.

“If ever there was a time when this was needed, it is now. A centrefor imagination for children. The need for children to have theplace, the time and the people to help them find ways ofexpressing themselves, is urgent, whether in drama, in dance, inmusic, in words, where they can find their voices, their confidence, where they discover and explore the world of the imagination. Howessential is this for the well-being of our children, of families, andhow it is lacking in Exeter…
I write to support whole-heartedly the inspirational team that is putting this wonderful project together. I have worked alongside many of them now for over 30 years and know them to be hugely imaginative themselves, to have great integrity, and real concern for the welfare of our children.”
