Science Park supports growth of pioneering Exeter waste management business

An Exeter Science Park-based company which harnesses the power of tech to revolutionise waste collection is planning to roll its services out across the country.

Binit is a next generation tech-led waste collection and recycling company, which was established in 2016. Following a successful investment raise the organisation now plans to double in size and it is being supported on its growth journey by Exeter Science Park, where it has recently moved to larger offices.
Binit, which has been based at the Science Park since 2020, has just been through a third round of investment which will enable it to scale up and roll out its service across the UK. Its customers are currently predominantly in the south west and include well-known brands such as Specsavers and Pizza Express.
The company is planning to double the size of its team from seven to 14 over the next few months.

Philippa Roberts, Binit co-founder and chief executive, said: “We are now entering a phase of serious growth at Binit. The flexible pathway in terms of office space at Exeter Science Park, as well as the connectivity and location, was one of the key aspects that appealed to us when we moved here.
“Access to investment through an organisation like the FSE Group, which is based at the Park, has also been important for us and an unexpected benefit was to have the opportunities to talk to other organisations based here who were going through the same process of raising finance.”

Binit is doing amazing work in waste management and recycling and we have been able to support its development through our policy of ensuring we have varying sizes of offices and labs, which enable companies to develop and grow at the Science Park at their own pace.”

Binit’s core aims are to get litter off the streets and to reduce heavy vehicle movements. Each Binit bin has a unique QR code that takes its customers to its bespoke customer service platform. It also supports SMEs to share bins and provides access to a wider range of source-segregated recycling options, meaning more waste gets recycled.
