EXIST (Exeter Initiative for Science & Technology) is a subgroup of Exeter Chamber and is a STEMM focussed group showcasing the innovative areas of expertise that we have in Exeter and the wider region.

Our ultimate goal is to make Exeter an even better place to do business for STEMM companies and organisations. We approach this goal in a number of ways (see aims & objectives below).

The group hosts topic focused events and publish Insight, a digital magazine focussing on science, technology and innovation for the business community.

Raising the profile of Exeter as an International Centre of Excellence for Science and Technology

  • Supporting recruitment, apprenticeships and training opportunities

Who Leads Exist?

Conrad Gillespie


Conrad took over the EXIST helm in December 2020 and heads up a Steering Group comprising of representatives from some of the most high profile organisations and innovative businesses in the area who strive to raise Greater Exeter’s profile as an internationally renowned location and gateway for excellence in science, research and innovation.

Conrad manages the South West Centre of Excellence in Satellite Applications (SWCoESA), which is part of the national Space ecosystem established by the Satellite Applications Catapult & UK Space Agency. In his role, Conrad focuses on helping innovators and researchers to develop and commercialise space technologies and satellite applications, across wide-ranging sectors, including Health, Marine & Maritime, Mining, and Natural Capital. By engaging with an expansive range of stakeholders, Conrad and his team build robust collaborations across industries and academia, in order to create technological opportunities, leverage scientific research, generate value and drive impact for regional growth.

Want to join the Steering Group?

EXIST Steering group members support the group’s core aims and objectives and work with the EXIST Chair, the team at One Voice Media / Exeter Chamber and other steering group members to:

  • Invite individuals at STEMM orientated businesses and organisations in Exeter and the surrounding area to join the SG and attend EXIST events
  • Put forward topics and speakers for events and Insight
  • Help to promote events and EXIST’s activities, through own available channels (social, web, newsletters, word of mouth, 121, etc) using the toolkits prepared and circulated
  • Suggest further activities which EXIST may undertake in accordance with its aims
  • Share news and information related to STEMM with other SG members
    Promote Exeter as a destination and centre for excellence in STEMM.
